In early March 2010, one of Nemesis’ members went with a group of people to McCall Lake, located west of Longmont, Colorado on Highway 66, to do some fishing. Once there, they noticed what poor shape the lake was in due to trash and debris and decided to do something about it. The idea was brought up to the team to adopt the lake as part of Longmont’s Adopt-a-Park / Friends of the Greenway program and the team jumped at the opportunity.
Nemesis has adopted Lake McCall for the 2010 year. The main focus of the project is a major cleanup effort although there may be some small maintenance projects in the future. Nemesis plans to do monthly cleanups during the warmer months and then a least every other month through the winter.
We are committed to cleaning up the lake as well as putting a positive face out there for paintball. The McCall Lake Cleanup is just the beginning, we plan to do volunteer work as well as fund raisers.
Cleanup Day 1
Our first Cleanup day was June 13th and it went pretty good. It started out a little rainy but turned out to be a nice overcast day. We had a decent turnout of 8 adults and 4 kids. We were there from 10am to 1:30pm and were able to fill 12 Trash bags and 10 recycle bags. We also talked to some of the visitors of the lake who think it's a great idea. One guy had quit taking his kids with to the lake due to all the trash and debris, and will start bringing his whole family again if it will be a cleaner experience.
Cleanup Day 2
Our second Cleanup day was July 11th. We completed all the way around the lake and the place looks pretty good. We had 6 adults and 5 kids show up for this one from 9am to noon. We filled 4 trash bags and 1 recycle bag as well as removed a 12' pvc pipe that someone discarded in the lake.
Cleanup Day 3
Our third Cleanup day was August 15th. We worked our way from the parking area to the dam. We had 4 adults and 1 kids show up for this one from 10am to noon. We filled 3 trash bags and 1 recycle bag.
